FAQ

Is psilocybin legal?

Yes! Thanks to the Oregon Psilocybin Services Act, the use of psilocybin, or magic mushrooms, is legal under the Oregon Health Authority regulations. . Psilocybin must be consumed at a Licensed facilitation Center located in Oregon, under the guidance of a licensed facilitator. All legal psilocybin products must be acquired from a licensed grower and undertake safety testing at a licensed lab. You can learn more about the process here, or in full at www.oregon/gov/psilocybin

Do I need a diagnosis or prescription to take Psilocybin Mushrooms?

You do not! The Oregon Health Authority strives for psilocybin services to be accessible to all, and no diagnosis or medical authorization is needed. Your facilitator will ask safety questions to ensure that you’re a good candidate for psilocybin work. If there are any concerns your facilitator will work with you and your doctor and/or therapist to create a plan to safely move forward. With that, psilocybin is not appropriate for everyone. Your facilitator may chose to turn you down for services, or put you in contact with another facilitator who may be a better fit. There are also several conditions that legally require a facilitator to deny services, such as having an active psychosis diagnosis, taking lithium, or having thoughts of harm to others. If you are unsure if you’re a safe candidate for psilocybin, contact us and we will be happy to discuss this further.

Should I have more than one session?

How many sessions you chose is a personal decision, and your facilitator will discus options, potential benefits, and discounts with you. Many people find that having two sessions within a short period of time can be beneficial, especially when they are traveling to Oregon for Psilocybin. For those who are new to psychedelics, it can be very helpful to have a introductory session at a lighter dose before having a session with a standard or heavy dose.

The positive impact of psilocybin, specifically in reducing depression, can last for up to a year, according to studies produced for John Hopkins (article here). Often people chose to have another psilocybin session to help maintain or reinforce these benefits. Many people also find the experience of psilocybin to be enjoyable, and may decide to have additional sessions to further explore themselves and their inner worlds!

When can I have a session?

At this time we ask that you plan on at least a month from your initial consultation to your psilocybin journey. That said, we understand that those facing end of life may have expediated needs, and we will do everything within our ability to accommodate delicate timelines.

If you can, a month allows plenty of time for you and your facilitator to get to know each other, ensure that you’re a good fit, and make sure that you’re well prepared for the journey ahead. This also allows us to have two intake sessions, though for expediated timelines this can be consolidated into one session. The exact date of your session will be dependent on service center and facilitator availability.

I’m not dealing with end of life, grief, or life altering illness. Can I still work with you?

Absolutely! We specialize with grief and loss, but these are very large topics and encompass so many things. Loss and grief can be abstract, and we don’t always need a particular event or death for these feelings. We are well versed in working with trauma, PTSD and c-PTSD, depression, anxiety, neurodivergence, relationship difficulties, queer and identity issues, and more. We also work within a wide network of qualified, trusted facilitators. If we feel like you may be a better fit for one of our colleagues, we will talk to you about this recommendation and help you connect with them!

I’m on SSRI’s. Can I still take Psilocybin?

There are no known counterindications with SSRIs and Psilocybin. However, SSRI usage can minimize or “blunt” the effect of psilocybin. Generally, this can be mitigated with higher doses of psilocybin. Some people still chose to taper off their SSRI’s before a psilocybin session, but this must be done under the supervision of a medical professional. Please let your Facilitator know if you are taking SSRI’s so you can discuss options and proper dosage. Facilitator and Educator Erica Zelfand has a wonderful video explaining more about psilocybin and SSRI’s, available here.

I can’t travel to a Service Center. Can you bring psilocybin to me?

Unfortunately, we cannot. The Oregon Psilocybin Services Act requires that all psilocybin is consumed within a licensed Facilitation Center. We are currently working with lawyers to amend the law to include reasonable accommodations for people in Oregon who are unable to travel to a center. If you feel like you would benefit from psilocybin but are restricted in your ability to travel and would like to help make psilocybin more accessible in the future, please contact us with your story.

Can I have a group session with my spouse/partner/loved ones?

Group sessions can be extremely beneficial, especially when dealing with difficulties that impact yourself and your loved ones. Many couples facing a terminal diagnosis find peace and acceptance from psilocybin journeys together. Typically our facilitators will suggest that you and your partner have individual sessions before having a shared session, but each case is different. Please contact us with your needs, and your facilitator will discus best practices and pricing structures. We can also host larger group sessions, and we host regular grief circles using psilocybin.

Will Psilocybin “fix” me?

Psilocybin can help reconnect you to a sense of wholeness, acceptance, and connectivity with the world around you. Psilocybin can’t “fix” you, since you are not broken. While psilocybin can be a remarkable part of your healing/self discovery journey, it is just once part of a larger picture. Psilocybin isn’t a cure-all or a magic pill, and we can’t predict or promise certain results or outcomes. Much of the healing work happens after the psilocybin journey, during the integration process. Your facilitator will work with you to discover your desires for working with psilocybin, discuss what expectations and hopes you may have, and work with you through the integration process to help you make the most out of your experience.

I need a medical professional, caregiver, or translator present. Can this be arranged?

Our facilitators will work with you to ensure that your physical needs are taken care of. The Oregon Health Authority will allow individual to be present during your session for needs that the facilitator is unable to assist with, including translation, bathroom assistance, and administering necessary medications during your session. Your facilitator will recommend that this person is available for your needs just outside your Service Center room, rather than being present in the room for the duration of your journey,.

Non-mandatory guests, such as friends, family, and pets, will not be allowed inside the journey session. If you would like to share this experience with your loved ones, we suggest talking to your facilitator about a group session.

Are your facilities ADA accessible?

While we do work with a fully ADA accessible service center, not all the centers we work with are accessible. Make sure you discuss any accessibility needs with your facilitator so we can schedule you with a center that fits your needs.

Does Insurance cover Psilocybin?

Unfortunately psilocybin is not covered by any insurance and must be paid privately. We offer sliding scale and scholarships for those facing financial need.
